About

I am an academic leader, researcher, and educator specialising in dance pedagogy, arts‑based research, and higher education leadership. Most recently, I have served as Deputy Principal at Bird College – Conservatoire of Dance and Musical Theatre, where I provided academic and artistic leadership across programmes, with responsibility for curriculum development, student recruitment, quality assurance, and strategic planning.
My professional practice is informed by more than thirty years’ experience in specialist higher education, alongside an extensive background as a dance artist, teacher, and pedagogical researcher. I have held senior leadership roles across conservatoire and university contexts, including leading teaching and learning strategy, curriculum review and innovation, academic governance, and regulatory compliance. My work is underpinned by a strong commitment to student experience, equity and inclusion, and collaborative leadership
As a researcher, my work focuses on dance training and pedagogy, with particular attention to critical feminist and queer pedagogies, insider research methodologies, and ethical practice within arts education. My doctoral research, Re‑Envisioning Dance Technique Pedagogy, examined how technique training is taught, experienced, and understood from within the studio, contributing to wider debates around knowledge production, positionality, and power in practice‑based research.
I have published in peer‑reviewed journals including Research in Dance Education, Theatre, Dance and Performance Training, and the Journal of Dance Education, and have contributed chapters to edited volumes addressing contemporary dance pedagogy and ethical leadership in the arts. I regularly present my research at national and international conferences and have convened research and scholarship events that bring together practitioners, researchers, and educators across the sector.
Alongside my institutional role, I contribute to the wider higher education and dance sector through board and committee work, external examining, and advisory roles, supporting the development, review, and enhancement of academic provision in arts‑based contexts. This website provides a central overview of my research, publications, leadership practice, and professional experience, and is intended as a reference point for my work.
